Mirwais Qader - Founder of Organization

Mirwais Qader, "Mir", is originally from Afghanistan and left the country when he was eight years old, just prior to the Soviet invasion in 1979.  He has traveled throughout Asia, Africa, and Europe while his father moved from post to post, working for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).  In Afghanistan, Mir's father worked for the UN and USAID (US Agency for International Development). In 1985, Mir and his family immigrated to the United States of America (U.S.A.) where he subsequently became a U.S. citizen.

Mir has received an Executive Masters in Business Administration (EMBA) degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Business, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in Computer Sciences and Statistics.  His education includes Information Technology (IT) development and programming, database management, information systems analysis and design, project management, small business management, entrepreneurship, and operations and quality management.  Mir is also a Masters Certified Project Manager and a graduate of the State of Wisconsin, Department of Administration, "ClubTech", IT Management development program. He has obtained an Oracle-Channel certification in Database Administration and Application Development.

Mir has had experience working both for the public and private sectors.

The University of Wisconsin School of Business has recognized Mir for his abilities in Business Strategic Planning.  He has won first prize on a regional award for best small business strategic plan.

Mir has lectured at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Business, Information Systems department, teaching students how to apply theoretical information systems and business management concepts to real world IT projects.

Mir has both training and experience in small business management and entrepreneurship, which includes business incubation startup and management, and micro-financing.  Mir has attended The Grameen Bank replication training on micro-finance in Bangladesh and is an active member of the National Business Incubation Association.

Mir's motivation in forming the Afghan Small Business Development Institute was to assist with the reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan; making a direct impact in people's current day-to-day lives and establishing a link between Afghanistan, its people and the world outside.
